The Ancient Geek 1.0 The Early Years

I was born on Monday, 12th December 1955, in the Shuberry Nursing Home in High Wycombe—the only child of Joyce and Albert “Bunny” Hancock.  Nobody knows why he was always known as “Bunny”.  Some say it was because of his athletic prowess, but we never really knew.

To put this into some kind of content, World War 2 was only 10 years behind them and the effects of that conflict were still being felt hard.  Times were tough.  The rationing of meat and bacon had only ended on 4th July, 1954.

Bunny had been in a reserved occupation until late 1945 making aircraft instruments although he had tried to join the RAF several times during the conflict, it wasn’t until the war was almost over and the pressures on aircraft production eased that he was finally allowed to go.

The exact dates are a bit hazy as was his job.  I recall him telling me he trained as a mid-upper gunner on Avro Ansons and Lockheed Hudsons before being sent overseas for peacekeeping duties in modern-day Palestine.  Whether he ever flew there, we don’t know.
